ENS Resources Boosts Appropriations Funding
Client: Western Research Institute
Each day millions of Americans drive down neighborhood streets, commute on busy freeways, and travel along Interstate highways — all relying on asphalt pavement. They also heat or cool their homes, receive medical care, run technology devices, and depend on the production and delivery of food — using all types of energy. While most people do not consider the science behind their daily routines, researchers and scientists at the Western Research Institute use their expertise in energy, highway materials, and the environment to find safer, more efficient, and more profitable ways for us to live.
The Institute leverages federal appropriations dollars to fund its many jointly sponsored research projects, which range from exploring alternative fuel and power sources to developing emergency clean-up plans for fuel or chemical contamination. Located in Laramie, Wyoming, the Western Research Institute trusts ENS Resources to be its presence in Washington, D.C. ENS staff coordinate the Institute’s federal lobbying efforts, reaching out to the Department of Energy, the Federal Highway Administration, and leaders in the House, Senate, and Executive branch. ENS monitors energy and highway bills and proposes projects for funding consideration. Recently, ENS led a strategic effort on behalf of the Institute and a consortium of research universities that resulted in $36 million from the SAFETEA-LU highway bill.
